Appointment with SMC

The Editor today met with the Executive Chairman of the Seychelles Media Commission (SMC), Ibrahim Afif. The meeting is part of the process before the SMC gives the go ahead to the Seychelles Licensing Authority (SLA) to issue a newspaper license. Meeting went well.  

Interviewing CDW

Le Seychellois Hebdo today met with the Chairperson of the Citizen Democracy Watch (CDW), Steve Lalanne for an interview. It will feature in the September 30th edition on page 12. We spoke about the historical move to create the first ever local observer group, the CDW's reputation and credibility, their relationship with the foreign observer missions currently in the country and the assistance given to them by the office of the Electoral Commission.

Digging in the Archive

Today, the editorial team had a fun assignment; digging up background information and facts about the past National Assembly elections, since the return of multiparty politics in Seychelles in 1993. That was also an opportunity to research for materials for two new features that will be introduced in the next copy - "Day in local history" and "Says Who."    

Promoting Peace Through Music

Today, the editorial team had an easy assignment; photographing the Universal Peace Federation (Seychelles) variety show at the National Theater. The photos will be published in the next Le Seychellois Hebdo issue (Friday 30th September) on the Magazine page. The highlight of the event was former President, Sir James Macham's keynote address. 

The Day After....

This morning's editorial meeting went well. The editorial team went over the Friday 24th edition and agreed on the changes we need to make. The general sentiment was that the inaugural copy was well received. Now the team's main difficulty is to maintain the standard week after week. 

The Beginning...

After waiting for weeks: going in and out of our lawyer, Frank Ally's office, sorting out issues with the Licensing Authority, setting up the office and having to swear in before the Supreme Court, Judge Karunakaran, Le Seychellois (Hebdo) was set to publish for the very first time. It was a thrilling experience.The first issue hit Victoria street at 11.30am. The public's reactions have assured us of a bright future - only if we work twice harder than all the other weekly paper.
