Building a strong relationship with the media

Le Seychellois editorial team today net with the Seychelles Marketing Board, headed by CEO Alain St Ange.

First we had a one hour head to head meeting, before meeting the whole STB team (minus the deputy CEO) to discuss networking and getting to know the right people to stay in touch with. 

The meeting was the first the newspaper had with any government department to see how we can build a strong relationship with one another.  

CCA New Exec

LSH attended the Cancer Concern Association (CCA) annual general meeting (AGM).

During the three hour meeting, members approved the audited accounts of the association and also had the opportunity to ask questions of two doctors present about the disease.   The meeting came a week before World Cancer Day which is marked on 04^th February.

Remaining tight lips

After a wait of almost one month, finally someone from the Foreign Affairs verbally replied to our query whether any formal condolences were offered on behalf of the people of Seychelles and well-wishes to the new man taking the rule in North Korea, following the death of Kim Jong il.

Very briefly, the ministry official said that it is customary for head of state to do so, but would not offer any further explanation.

Une fille pa comme les autres

Shujatha Chettiar is a violinist and karateka. Upon seeing her for the first time accompanying the Ste Therese Choir during last year’s Ste Cecile concert and catching up again with her during this week’s percussion workshop at the Seychelles Conservatoire of Performing Arts, LSH was curious to find out more about Shujatha. We caught up with her today and you can read all about her interest in this week’s edition – interview is published on p.12

The conspiracy of silence

Today we heard that the 63 sacked cabin crew were meeting with their legal representative at the ex-National sport Council building at Mont Fleuri. We headed and approached them before their meeting, sadly none of them agreed to speak to us, which goes to show how their Creole Spirits have totally crashed.

Witnessing judicial history

Today we witnessed the Constitutional Appointment Authority (CAA) being hit hard by the Constitutional Court for stepping outside its constitutional mandate to extend the contract period of a judicial appointee for a further period exceeding the period stipulated for the first term of office in the original contract of employment.

The ruling came in the constitutional case brought by businessman Viral Dhanjee who has challenged the re-appointment of Justice Gupt Domah to a second term of office as a justice of the Court of Appeal.

In their judgment the panel of judges comprising of Judges Durai Karunakaran (presiding), Bernardin Renaud and Gustave Dodin, ruled that the appointment of Justice Domah was unconstitutional and ultra vires and therefore, null and void and void ab initio, that is from his swearing-in on 5^th September 2011.

The court made a series of proposals which they hope the CAA will take into consideration in its future deliberation and which LSH will publish in details in its Friday 20^th January edition.
